Unlock your creativity

We had a fantastic workshop with Yvette de Beer. The pictures tell the story.

The workshop was held in Yvette's lovely home on Witbank Dam where she has a beautiful work room flooded with natural light.

We began by painting backing board. Then we were asked to draw characters based on random pieces of driftwood and other natural items.

We were asked to juxtapose two characters. We placed these on the backing boards. As can be seen, many different approaches were taken.

What a fabulous way to unleash creativity, free the mind and be inspired! Thanks Yvette.

SCBWI at the Jozi Book Fair

A visitor to the Fair
SCBWI members were invited to exhibit their books and other promotional material at the Jozi Book Fair held from 11-13 September 2015.  Matina Genkova-Mpofu did an outstanding job as organiser of the stand and various members took turns to be on duty.

Members also facilitated events. Joan Rankin held workshops in creativity for both children and adults. Jenny Hatton's play The Hare, Squirrel, Old Man and his Daughter was performed. She also facilitated a discussion on the importance of reading. A highlight of the fair was In Conversation with Joan Rankin (with Jenny Hatton).

Unlocking your creative energy

Yvette de Beer will facilitate the workshop.

Venue: Witbank Dam (Address will be sent to respondents)

Date: Tuesday 15 April 2014

Time: 10:00 - 15:00

Cost: R80 SCBWI members, R150 non-members

RSVP: By 8 April to Jenny at SCBWI.SA.Gauteng@mweb.co.za

Yvette de Beer will facilitate a workshop using mixed media, drawing, painting and collage.

Please note: • We will organise lifts so that attendees can travel together. It’s not as far as it sounds if you think that you won’t be going through Joburg traffic! • The workshop is for illustrators and writers. • A light lunch will be provided.

The aim of the day is to have a lot of fun and to experiment with our own idea of what creativity is and how it shapes our live and work. We are going to explore our creative thinking in a series of exercises ( using unconventional methods and tools), and in the end build a final work of art or illustration with the images we create.
